Fanis Athanasopoulos MSc, MHC
Psychology Student - Mental Health Counselor - Bioaffective Therapist - CBT & Clinical Hypnotherapist - Educator
My name is Athanassopoulos Fanis, I was born and raised in Kalamata, and in recent years I have been living in Athens.
From a young age, I was an introverted person who gave more importance to observation than to speech. This pushed me to focus on observing human behavior and interaction, something that fascinated me and became the first step on my journey into the field of mental health.
My journey began later in life and, although at first it seemed like a choice, I now feel that mental health “chose” me—like a siren enchanting you with its captivating song, leaving you to follow its path without being able to escape.
Initially, I studied Philology at the School of Philosophy of the University of Ioannina. This experience shaped my thinking and my understanding of the importance of language and expression, both on a personal and interpersonal level. During my studies, I was introduced for the first time to Stoic, Epicurean, and Existential philosophy, fundamental elements that have defined my psychological perspective to this day.
After a period of inner exploration and my first contact with psychotherapy as a client, I decided to study Counseling in Mental Health. I still remember the fears and hesitations I had about what then seemed like such a big endeavor. However, I did not give up, and in this way I found my personal meaning in life—what fulfills me and gives me the strength to continue.
Later, clinical hypnosis entered my life, leading me to specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Hypnotherapy (CBH) and Biothymic Psychotherapy. At this point in my path, I began to understand the importance of an eclectic–integrative approach through the fourfold dimension: Thought – Body – Emotion – Behavior.
Another milestone in my journey was child and adolescent psychological development, a subject that had already interested me since my student years. For this reason, I pursued postgraduate studies in Applied Developmental Psychology at the Hellenic Open University. Development is a continuous process that unfolds throughout our lives and makes us realize the connection between childhood experiences and our present sense of self.
Recently, my interest has turned to the field of eating disorders and the significant impact they have on individuals today. For this reason, I completed the training Master Practitioner in Eating Disorders at KEADD.
At present, I work as a member of the team at the psychotherapy center “The Roots Wellness Center,” offering both in-person and online sessions, applying the integrative psychotherapy model.
To keep my professional reflexes sharp, I participate in seminars and interdisciplinary conferences on topics such as trauma, existential approaches, personality theories, diagnostic criteria of psychological disorders, and more. I also hold certifications from completed programs of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens on “Behavioral Psychotherapy” and “Psychodynamic Psychotherapy,” the University of the Aegean on “Special Education and Training,” and the University of West Attica on “Promotion of Mental Health of Children and Adolescents.”
In my free time, I write poetry and practice photography, while I also enjoy theater and cinema—interests that help me express myself and grow in all areas of my life.
